Whipton Post Office, a counter service in the Pinhoe Road Morrisons Daily store, is to close permanently on 14 August, when the store will also close its doors.
It will be the second post office counter operated by Morrisons to close in Exeter following the closure of Sidwell Street Post Office in April last year.
Exeter Post Office is also be at risk of closure.
It has been housed in the Guildhall Shopping Centre branch of TG Jones since the city’s remaining Crown Post Office – directly operated by Post Office Limited and offering a full range of services – closed in Bedford Street in 2019.
Private equity firm Modella Capital, which agreed a £76 million deal last year for 480 WHSmith high street stores which it then rebranded as TG Jones, plans to close up to 150 stores as part of a “restructuring plan”.
When the deal was completed, 200 of the included WHSmith branches operated post office counters.
Modella has not yet announced which TG Jones stores are to close.
