Exeter History Book Festival

One-day event with talks from four Devon historians and stalls from local heritage organisations.

Exeter Local History Society is hosting a one-day book festival featuring talks from Devon historians on Saturday 21 February at Mint Methodist Church Centre.

The event opens with Dr John Pamment Salvatore speaking about his book An untimely departure? The role of the Roman Second Legion Augusta whilst at Exeter.

He is followed by Dr Todd Gray who will talk about his book on the history of Mass-Observation in Exeter, Devon’s Home Front Diaries, 1937 to 1945.

In the afternoon Dr Andrew Thrush will speak about his book on Exeter and Parliament from 1559-1629.

Tracey Norman and Mark Norman will then talk about their book Devon’s forgotten witches 1860-1910.

There will also be stalls from local heritage organisations and the featured books will be available for sale on the day.

Exeter Local History Society holds regular monthly meetings and hosts several lectures each year which cover a wide range of subjects from the city’s Roman remains to its post-war development.

The Exeter History Book Festival takes place on Saturday 21 February 2026 at Mint Methodist Church Centre in Fore Street. Registration is at 9.30am for a 10.25am start.
