A Feast of English Choral Music

Exeter Philharmonic Choir performs works by English composers.

Exeter Philharmonic Choir is performing a concert of works by English composers on Saturday 14 June at Exeter Cathedral.

The programme includes Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Hubert Parry’s setting for the coronathan anthem I was glad and H. Balfour Gardiner’s’ anthem Evening Hymn.

Howard Ionascu will conduct the choir with baritone Thomas Humphreys and organ soloist Stephen Tanner.

Exeter Philharmonic Choir was founded in 1846 and currently has around 100 members. It has given concerts in Exeter every year since its inaugural performance of Handel’s Messiah in 1847.

The choir has performed in Royal Festival Hall and toured in Germany and Spain.

Exeter Cathedral, properly known as the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter in Exeter, is a medieval Anglican church and the seat of the Bishop of Exeter.

The current building was completed around 1400.

A Feast of English Coral Music begins at 7.30pm on Saturday 14 June 2025 at Exeter Cathedral, with doors from 6.45pm.

Tickets cost from £6-£20 and can be booked via the Ticketsource website.
