Exeter-based bus operator Stagecoach South West has won a contract to run the network of bus services in Guernsey from April next year.
Although the island’s buses are expected to retain their existing local branding, all the staff will become employees of Stagecoach South West.
An immediate challenge for the company will be that Guernsey drivers are paid a basic hourly rate of £16.25 whereas the rate for their future Devon counterparts is £15.03.
Exeter residents may be hoping that sorting out this and the raft of other issues involved in running the buses on an island that is not part of the UK will not distract Stagecoach South West’s management from continuing to resolve pressing service delivery problems closer to home.
