365 Years of Purcell

A free lunchtime concert to celebrate the composer’s work.

Exeter Library is hosting a free lunchtime concert on Sunday 15 September to celebrate the work of composer Henry Purcell, born 365 years ago in September 1659.

The concert features vocal soloists including Kara Malton, Melanie Mehta and Iryna Ilnytska and piano soloist John Draisey.

The programme includes the first act of Purcell’s landmark opera Dido and Aeneas, a selection of vocal duets and arias and various piano pieces originally composed for the harpsichord.

Henry Purcell was a composer of Baroque music whose style was uniquely English while incorporating Italian and French elements.

He was among England’s most important early music composers.
