Devon County Council has approved the next stage of consultation on its bus priority proposals in the Heavitree Road “central” and Honiton Road “eastern” transport corridors.
The proposals include new traffic signals, CCTV monitoring for traffic control and changes to bus lane operation times.
An initial public consultation on the changes held earlier this year yielded more than 800 responses..
The addition of a bus lane to a short stretch of Barrack Road on the “central” corridor has been removed in response to consultation feedback.
Devon County Council will now conduct a statutory consultation on the Traffic Regulation Orders required to formalise the remaining changes.
The proposals are among several incremental changes that are at various stages of development as part of the Devon Bus Services Improvement Plan adopted by the county council in 2022.
The plan identifies six bus corridors in Exeter, five of which run from the city centre to its outskirts along radial routes and one along Barrack Road between Topsham Road and Heavitree Road.
The cost of the central and eastern corridor schemes is estimated at £1.6 million.
