Spork! Summer Special 2024

An evening of al fresco spoken-word comedy and poetry with Antosh Wojcik, Stewart Taylor and Micha Colombo.

Spork! is presenting a spoken-word comedy and poetry summer special in Rougemont Gardens with Antosh Wojcik, Stewart Taylor and Micha Colombo on Thursday 1 August.

The al fresco evening is part of the Theatre in the Park summer season hosted by Exeter Phoenix.

The season also includes Love Riot, a retelling of a Georgian-era romantic comedy by Miracle Theatre and performances of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale by Sun & Moon Theatre from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 August.

Antosh Wojcik is an multi-disciplinary artist, drummer and national poetry slam winner. His writing has appeared in anthologies published by Bad Betty Press and Nine Arches Press.

Stewart Taylor is a poet and winner of several poetry slams. He has headlined at spoken word events and performed at festivals including Victorious and WOMAD. He won the national anti-slam in 2016 performing as pretentious fictitious poet J. Arthur Prufrock.

Micha Colombo is a writer and performer based in the South West. Her work, which has been published in several journals, combines film, theatre and poetry. She is the winner of last year’s Spork! Dead Poets Slam.

Spork! is a community-led producer of spoken word works. It was founded in 2018 by Exeter poet and artist Chris White.

It holds events in Exeter that feature local talent with line-ups from across the UK and offers a year-round programme of writing and performance workshops and an artist development programme.

Spork! works with community partners ranging from Newcourt Community Centre to Mothers Who Make. It has programmed drag queens, brass bands and rappers as well as spoken-word artists including Buddy Wakefield, Vanessa Kissule and John Hegley.

Spork! Summer Special begins at 6pm on Thursday 1 August 2024 in Rougemont Gardens.

Tickets cost £8, or £5 for students and under-25s, and are available from the Exeter Phoenix website.

Attendees are invited to bring their own refreshments and a chair, blanket or cushion to sit on. In the event of wet weather the performance may take place indoors.
