Isca Ensemble presents an evening of classical music with soloist Ben Goldscheider in aid of local charity Hospicare on Saturday 28 October at Exeter Cathedral

The ensemble will play the overture from The Merry Wives of Windsor by Otto Nicolai, Horn Concerto No. 1 by Strauss, the Rondo from Horn Concerto No. 4 by Mozart and Bruckner’s Symphony No.7.

The concert is a celebration of the life of pianist and classical music producer Joanna Leach.

A celebration concert has taken place in most years since the Joanna Leach Foundation was created in 2011 to support music in East Devon and the surrounding area in collaboration with the Isca Ensemble.

Isca Ensemble is an orchestra of former professional and experienced amateur players led by Antony Clements and musical director Roger Hendy.

It rehearses in Exeter and performs several concerts each year, often at Sidmouth Parish Church.

Ben Goldscheider is a French horn player from London. He completed his studies with honours at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin with Radek Baborák and was appointed Artist in Association at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama this year.

He was nominated by the Barbican as a European Concert Halls Organisation rising star in 2021 and has given recitals at major concert halls across Europe including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Musikverein in Vienna, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Wigmore Hall in London.

Hospiscare is an independent local charity which provides specialist hospice care to patients and their families living with life-limiting illnesses in Exeter and East and Mid Devon.

Exeter Cathedral, properly known as the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter in Exeter, is a medieval Anglican church and the seat of the Bishop of Exeter. The current building was completed around 1400.
