Themla Hulbert gallery is presenting an exhibition of works by post-war Devon landscape artist Yasmin David from Saturday 12 September to Saturday 31 October.
Yasmin David was the daughter of writer Laurie Lee and Lorna Garman, a member of the Bloomsbury group. She was one of few women painters working in landscape during the post-war period.
She exhibited only briefly in her early career before marrying, moving to Devon and raising a family but produced a significant body of work over more than fifty years before her death in 2009.
Most of her work, which explored the particular light and landscape near her home on Dartmoor, remained largely unseen during her lifetime.

Yasmin David: The Nature of Light opens at Thelma Hulbert Gallery on Saturday 12 September.
The opening event includes music by an ex-student of the artist and a talk about her life and work with art history professor Sophie Hatchwell and teaching fellow Rebecca Savage, both from the University of Birmingham.
Then on Thursday 22 October the gallery will host another talk with Lara Goodband, contemporary art curator at RAMM, and documentary film-maker Clio David, Yasmin David’s daughter.
Following her mother’s death, Clio David discovered drawings, notebooks, poetry and over 200 unseen paintings at the family home which were then shown in a 2021 exhibition at The New Art Gallery Walsall.
Yasmin David: The Nature of Light runs from Saturday 12 September to Saturday 31 October 2026 at Thelma Hulbert Gallery in Honiton.
The exhibition is free. To attend the opening event on Saturday 12 September email info@thelmahulbert.com.
The talks with Sophie Hatchwell and Rebecca Savage, and Lara Goodband and Clio David, each cost £5, or are free for under-25s. Booking is recommended.
