Exeter Custom House is hosting a festival of shanty singing at venues across Exeter Quay on Saturday 12 September.
The free event includes performances by more than twenty shanty bands from across the South West including The Jolly Grogsters, Back Beach Boyz, Exmouth Shanty Men, Midsummer Gurnards and Hot Tuna.
Shanties are traditional folk songs which were sung to accompany rhythmical labour aboard large merchant sailing vessels.
They are now performed a cappella by groups and choirs alongside other folk and sea songs.
The Quayside Shanty & Heritage Harbour Festival takes place from 12-10pm on Saturday 12 September 2026 at various Exeter Quay venues.
